How can we help?

Khan Academy Courses to be Retired in Summer 2020

Updated

On July 15, 2020, Khan Academy will retire some of its older and partner courses.  In this article we’ll walk you through the details of this update and suggest alternative resources.

What is happening?

  • Khan Academy is retiring some content that isn’t aligned to our focus on Kindergarten through early college (K-14) core academic courses and select tests. This change will take place on July 15, 2020.
  • In many cases, content from retiring courses is also included within a core academic course. That content will continue to be available on Khan Academy.

Why is this happening?

  • As a small nonprofit, we work hard to make world-class content available free to educators and students around the globe. However, our limited resources require us to prioritize our efforts.
  • Over the last few years we’ve been deepening our focus on core academic content and seen usage of that content grow considerably. By retiring content that is outside this focus area, our team will be able to devote more care and energy to maintaining and improving this highly utilized content.
  • We explored the possibility of leaving courses outside this focus area up while no longer investing in them. However, because of concerns around maintenance and opportunity cost (there's no such thing as a true zero-effort course), we decided not to pursue this option.

This was a tough decision, but ultimately we think it’s the right long-term move for our learners. Because of efforts like these, the team is able to better devote our resources to both expanding our K-14 core academic content and to making it truly exceptional. So look for news about new and updated courses later this summer!
