I don't understand why you changed the interface. IMHO it's much worse that the old one. I'm not complaining just because it's new and different: it is lacking over the old one.
For example, when looking at the Table of Contents, you could tell how much of each topic you had covered because of the completion circle around each topic icon. Now that's gone.
When looking at a video, the list of other videos/exercises where on the left and therefore the video used up more screen space than the reduced version in the new interface. Currently, the video is not only about 60% smaller but it has two black areas on each side, totally unused and useless. In the old interface, the normal video size was just right, whereas the new one makes me want to view full screen (which I don't really like because it prevents interaction with other windows or window elements).
The format for the exercises is similarly crippled because the top third of the window browser is used up the list of other exercises/videos, yet there is unused white space on both sides of the exercise itself. Because of the limited space for the exercise, many exercises now require scrolling from the problem to the questions, whereas before I'd say 80% of the exercises required no scrolling.
Maybe the new interface was prompted by wanting to support tablet devices. If that is the case, you need to tell your designers about adaptive and responsive design, i.e., the need to support larger device formats as well.
