I'm so excited to hear about this content, especially after writing this (and seeing many other requests).😂

Is there yet a breakdown about what the ELA content team will be implementing for sure, what is planned, what is being considered, etc.?

Thanks Cyrus! While we don't have a more detailed breakdown ready to share yet, we'll keep this post updated once that changes. Thanks for linking to your post from earlier this year too - tons of great stuff to chew on there :)

What is ELA? I'm just looking for the acronym to be spelled out, not a whole definition of what it is. Please answer right here, directly, not with a link to an explanatory page, and not with a command for me to Google it. Thank.

Hey Anna Russum! "beta" is a software/tech world term that's most commonly used to describe a public trial phase of a new product feature - but here we're using it for the content itself. There's some more info about the term here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle#Beta

Hi Regina Litman - ELA stands for English Language Arts. Thanks for calling that out - I'll add the full name to the article too :)

Tom Green Thanks for the reply that spells out English Language Arts. I knew that someone asked what "beta" means. As someone who worked in Information Technology/Information Management/Data Processing/any of many other names for this field from the 1970s through the 2010s, I knew what it meant but wasn't able to come up with a good explanation for the person who asked it. So I also thank you for stepping in with your reply.

I am also happy to see that Khan Academy is developing this content.

Yes! I can’t wait to start letting my kids use this as practice! Is this already able to be assigned as a learning mission the way Engage NY math content is?

Will their be any high school curriculum in the future? If so, if you need material I am a current high school sophomore and still have my freshman notes and almost done with my English class for this semester.

This is really exciting. I have tried a few questions today. It is awesome to give students some hints when I picked the right/wrong answers. The real question is that the kids can not reach it in App.Ican't wait to let them try.

That's great to hear Mrs. Burke! While we won't be using missions in ELA, we do plan to enable assignable course mastery in the future. We don't have a firm timeline on that yet - because we want to wait until the content is stable (i.e. out of beta), plus there are some other factors. But it's definitely in our plans :)

Thanks so much Jesus Serratos! We plan to try out some prototype 9th grade content in 2020, and long term we absolutely want to add content for all high school grades. That may be a few years down the line, though - we're focusing on building out upper elementary and middle grades in 2019 and 2020.

Thanks liangson219 :) As the content's in beta, we're keeping it to the desktop website for now, but once we get some courses officially live and out of beta (hopefully summer 2020), expect to see those on mobile and in the app too!

My 7th and 8th-grade students have begun the grammar course and it's thorough and challenging!  Thanks for adding ELA!

This beta application concerns me greatly.  As it stands, the developers are not touching upon all the standards for reading yet.  There is no mention of the "Integration of Knowledge and Ideas" section of the Common Core.  This section is key to developing a strong ELA understanding at each grade level.  Also, the questions presented do not seem to model next-generation models or get to the depth of the standard.  Finally, in the informational section, you are not using any ELA informational texts, only those from other content areas.  I would love to offer you suggestions, but the feedback form is down currently.

I am a first grade teacher and very excited to see all that you have done with LearnStorm.  What a great FREE resource for both teachers, students and families.

I just wanted to give a little feedback about young students and reading passages, they need to be short, large font with lots of white space and add color graphic and a hook title.  This will help students get motivated to read.

Can't wait to see this evolve - Thank you!

I also love Khan Academy Kids.

Thanks for your feedback Diane Batts :) The feedback form should be working now - we'd love to hear more from you, so feel free to fill that out to get in touch: https://forms.gle/xd3VmMesatWkKM4i7. Have you already checked out our integrated 4th grade course here: https://www.khanacademy.org/ela/cc-4th-grade-ela? We'll be adding more of this type of course in the coming months for other grades as we build out our standards coverage.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts KwhitePD! We'd love to hear more from you - if you'd be interested in giving more in depth feedback, head over to this form and we'll follow up with you. We totally hear you on the need for a more learner-friendly experience for younger readers - we'll be adding more images as the year goes on as a starter. We'd love to be able to adjust the font size too, although we don't have a timeline on that yet.

Q: What is BETA and ELA ?

A: ELA is known as English Language Arts. BETA is in finance, the beta of an investment is a measure of the risk arising from exposure to general market movements as opposed to idiosyncratic factors. The market portfolio of all investable assets has a beta of exactly 1.

    Hope i helped.
